Good seed starting is mostly about reliable moisture, adequate light, clean containers and accurate labels.
Useful basics
- Seed trays, cells or small pots with drainage
- Seed-starting mix
- Permanent plant labels
- Gentle watering tool or spray bottle for surface-sown seed
- Bright window or suitable grow light when natural light is inadequate
Do not buy complexity first
Heat mats, domes and specialty propagation gear can be helpful for certain seeds, but they are not universal requirements. Let the species you plan to grow determine the equipment.
