Indoor herb growing is mostly a light-management problem. A bright window can work for some plants; others need stronger supplemental light or simply perform better outdoors.
Start with light
Measure the actual light available before selecting plants. Tall flowering perennials are usually less practical indoors than compact herbs and seed-starting trays.
Prioritize airflow and drainage
Stagnant, damp conditions invite problems. Use pots with drainage and avoid keeping foliage continually wet.
Use indoors as a propagation stage
For many medicinal-garden plants, indoor space is most useful for germinating and raising seedlings before transplanting outside when conditions are suitable.
